Kyphoplasty is a surgical procedure to treat vertebral compression fractures. It can reduce pain and increase mobility. It offers a minimally invasive alternative to other surgeries. A surgeon may perform kyphoplasty - for a vertebral compression fracture. VCF’s occur when the bony block in the spine collapses, which may cause extreme pain, deformity, and loss of height. It is a minimally invasive percutaneous procedure that involves the insertion of an inflatable bone tamp into the fractured vertebral body under fluoroscopic guidance. The bone tamp is then inflated, elevating the endplates and restoring the vertebral body toward its original height - spine pain . Kyphoplasty is the least invasive intervention that is effective in the treatment of VCF that didn't respond to conservative intervention, it shows a rapid pain relief and improvement in pain on VAS, quality of life, and pulmonary function.
